Sue joined Advocacy First as a volunteer in 2002, and shortly after completing the training course was asked to take on the role of Volunteer Co-ordinator.
As Volunteer Co-ordinator, Sue recruits volunteers, checks references, ensures CRB checks are carried out, and monitors the subsequent training of selected volunteers. This includes a formal training course, as well as shadowing professional advocates.
Additionally, Sue ensures that all volunteers receive ongoing support. This includes regular volunteer support meetings, which may involve guest speakers with expert knowledge of specific areas, group discussions, and focus on any particular problems and concerns.
Over the years, Sue has developed a close working relationship with Bromley Volunteer Centre and participates regularly in volunteer co-ordinating forums. In 2010, at the Centre’s annual award ceremony, one of Sue’s volunteers, Christabel Drake, was presented with the Volunteer Award, by Bromley Mayor, Cllr George Taylor.
