Why ADVOCACY FIRST needs Volunteers

There is a long-standing tradition of people offering their services to their local community with no expectation of financial gain or any other material benefit. Very often, people find the best route for them to offer their services is by volunteering to help a national or local charity organisation such as Advocacy First.

Sue Turner - Volunteer Coordinator

Since the creation of Advocacy First in 1998 we have been fortunate to have the commitment of a dedicated band of volunteer staff to work alongside a small core of paid staff. The paid staff members manage the day-to-day operations of Advocacy First under the direction of and on behalf of the Trustees who are themselves volunteers.

As we plan for the future, we recognise that volunteers will have an increasingly significant role to play in sustaining and developing our services.

The Board of Trustees is committed to expanding the number and quality of volunteers. Trustees value the flexibility and commitment that volunteers bring to the organisation and wish to see them play a greater role in the expansion of our range of services.

They also recognise that training to become an Advocate may not suit everyone who wishes to become involved. Many people offering a variety of other skills and experience may wish to support the ideal of advocacy by deploying these skills in support of Advocacy First.

Our existing and new Volunteer Advocates, all trained by Advocacy First, work alongside our paid staff in the delivery of services to our clients. In addition, a team of administrative and fundraising volunteers provide a high quality support function. In partnership, we believe we have a highly professional and flexible organisation that delivers a high quality advocacy service to our local community.
